5 Easy Ways to Add Exercise to Your Daily Life

Fitness improves our overall health and long-term well-being by having an impact on heart and hormonal health, energy, aging… the list goes on. Make sure to check out our article that goes into detail on those benefits!

But a lot of people struggle to find the time to fit exercise into their already hectic schedule and as a result, exercise ends up falling to the wayside. Another thing many people think is that, in order to exercise, they need to be in a gym for hours. The reality is that fitness comes in many forms and the key is finding a way to exercise that fits your lifestyle and is something you can sustain.

If you are looking for some practical ways to add more movement into your life, then consider these five ideas to simply help you just move more!

#1. Implement some morning movement.

It can be as simple as a 5-minute yoga or stretch session in your bed or on the floor, or perhaps getting outside for a 10-minute walk while the sun rises.

#2. Set reminders throughout the day to move.

If you have a fitness tracker such as a Fitbit®or Apple Watch®, you can set them (or set them up on your phone) to buzz at various times throughout the day. You can add a reminder to go on a short walk, get up to stretch, or go and get some water to stay hydrated.

#3. Walk more when you have the option.

Could you walk to get your morning Americano instead of grabbing it in the drive-thru on your way to work? Instead of letting the dog out into the backyard, what about taking him for a walk around the block?

#4. Plan outings around more than just food and drinks.

Whether it is family game night or a date with a partner, try and get creative on what you spend your time doing. Dinner and a movie is fun, but what about changing it up and going to the park, hitting the gym together, taking a group hike, or playing mini golf?

#5. Invest in yourself by investing in health.

What if every time you added semi-unnecessary items in your Amazon cart, you emptied it and put the amount you were about to spend into a “savings jar” and bought a piece of home exercise equipment? Maybe it’s a set of nice exercise bands, or maybe it’s a stationary bike or treadmill. Having something at home can act as extra motivation or a friendly reminder to keep up on your movement goals.

The list goes on! Once you find a way that works for you to have fitness as part your daily life it will quickly become a staple.
