Exercise Equipment Options - How Do You Choose?

As you consider your home gym needs, you may be questioning which piece of cardio equipment will help you reach your fitness goals. Precor strives to design each piece of fitness equipment to deliver you results regardless of your abilities. We’ll help you determine the cardio equipment that will be the best investment of your time and money.

The Core Pieces of Precor Cardio Equipment Explained

Precor has long been a leading fitness equipment manufacturer and maintains a great reputation for both the best in-club and the best in-home cardio equipment.

Why Buy A Precor Treadmill?

With patented technology and advanced engineering, Precor treadmills help you move better and are consistently a step above the competition. If you’ve trained on a Precor treadmill at your local gym, you know your at-home workouts will be kicked up a notch with a Precor treadmill of your own.

Our Precor treadmill will help kick your at-home workouts up a notch with its patented technology—from shock absorbers that allow for little variance between runners regardless of size or ability, to sophisticated electronics that intuitively monitor belt speed to ensure you get a running experience that replicates the outdoors. Our innovation and technology repeatedly beats out the competition with a difference you can feel.

Why Buy A Precor Elliptical?

In 1995, Precor changed the fitness world for the better by introducing its elliptical technology—and its patented motion—to the marketplace. Over 30 years later, and we continue to be the favorite elliptical for gyms across the globe.  The patented CrossRamp® allows you to engage multiple muscle groups and its biomechanical design creates a zero-impact workout that reduces joint stress and fatigue.

Precor CrossRamp technology is the only type in its class. By manually or automatically adjusting the elliptical’s incline, you’re able to specifically activate the different muscle groups in your lower body, especially the glutes, quads, abs, and hamstrings.

Why Buy The Precor Adaptive Motion Trainer® (AMT®)?

The AMT is a prime example of our ability to create revolutionary products while continuing to drive innovation. Precor created a new category of fitness equipment with this low-impact cardio machine that can target specific muscle groups in your lower body. With a fully adjustable stride length, you’re able to change the motion of your steps on the fly to help you burn calories faster.

With the Precor-patented Open Stride™ technology, the AMT provides an infinite range of motion paths to deliver the exact workout you need to reach your goals. Whether you incorporate long strides to replicate running or shorter strides similar to climbing stairs (and any stride length in between), the AMT with Open Stride provides a low-impact cardio workout that burns more calories than most other workouts.

The Precor walk-through designed recumbent bike redefines cardio fitness with a low-impact workout that helps build your stamina and strength. The design of the Precor air flex seat is not only a proprietary design but also provides a cool and cushioned ride that’s perfect for exercisers of any age.

Are you looking for versatility?

The AMT is one of the most versatile pieces of fitness equipment on the market. Offering a total body workout, it allows you to switch up your stride on the fly, target different muscle groups throughout a single workout, and bring variety into your workout. Push and pull with the moving arms, and you get a concentrated upper-body workout. Let go of the handlebars and squat for a full lower body workout. Hold the feet pedals level and hands off the handlebars, and you’ll challenge your balance and work your abs.

What do you like to do?

You’re most likely to get a better workout if you enjoy what you’re doing. If you enjoy running but have an injury, try an elliptical or AMT. If you are looking for more versatility and variety in your workouts, the AMT will allow you to jog or do an all-out sprint. If you love running, a treadmill will fit your needs. If you enjoy sitting comfortably while toning your legs, the recumbent bike will work great.

Are you recovering from injury?

If you’ve suffered a recent or past injury, you’re likely concerned about staying healthy. If your hips are painful, the recumbent bike is an excellent choice. If you’re prone to knee or ankle issues, the low-impact workouts you get on an elliptical, an AMT, or a recumbent bike may alleviate that pressure.

How do you choose a stationary bike for your home gym?

If you’re looking to incorporate cycling into your in-home workout, a stationary bike is the perfect choice. There are three types of bikes to choose from – the recumbent bike, the upright bike, and the Spinner® bike. The recumbent bike is designed with a reclined seat that may put less pressure on your lower back and pelvis than an upright bike, and that can be helpful if you’re recovering from an injury. On the other hand, the upright bike will bring your indoor-cycle experience home and most closely replicate the feeling of being on a road bike to help you push the boundaries of your workout.

Where do you plan to put the equipment in your home?

While most of the Precor cardio equipment has a similar sized footprint, you should consider the size of your space before you purchase. Visualize where you are going to work out in your home and choose the equipment that will fill your needs and your space. Don’t forget to consider if you’ll need extra room for weights, yoga, etc. A great way to help visualize the product in your home is to use the Precor Space Planner to lay out your fitness equipment in your home.  Give it a try, its easy!

What type of surface will your equipment go on?

Take note of the type of surface your equipment will be on. If your cardio equipment is on carpet or hardwood floors, we recommend putting a rubber mat under it to avoid sweat getting on the floor and for easy clean-up. If your home gym will be on an upper floor, or if you share walls or ceilings with neighbors or family, we highly recommend a noise-dampening mat to avoid any annoyances.

As you consider your Precor equipment options, the best way to determine a solution for your in-home gym—and get all your questions answered—is to visit an authorized Precor dealer. Our experts will work with you to help you find your perfect cardio fit.
